Small Dam Cost-Share Program

Objectives:

The purpose of this program is to encourage landowners and counties in the District to construct structures which provide grade stabilization and/or flood control.

General Policy:

It shall be the policy of the Lower Big Blue Natural Resources District to financially participate in the construction or rebuilding of dams located on private property. District cost-share shall be a percent of the cost of such projects. Cost of the project shall mean construction costs, including seeding and fencing where needed, engineering costs, inspection costs (during construction) and any land rights costs, should they be required, minus any federal and/or state funds available.

The board may consider 100% cost-share on a case-by-case basis.

The district policy outlined heretofore shall be the general policy of the district, however, when unusual circumstances dictate, the district may modify their financial contribution to these flood control or grade stabilization dams.

Application Eligibility and Procedure

1. Applications will be considered from one or more landowners or from any county or municipality within the District who desires to construct a structure that provides grade stabilization and/or flood control benefits.
2. The applicant shall apply at his/her local NRCS office on forms provided by the NRD. The application will be signed by the applicant and certified by the NRCS.
3. At the time of application, the NRCS will be requested to provide an estimate of quantities and costs for the project.
