NRD 2010 TREE PROGRAM
The
Lower Big Blue NRD is accepting orders for trees to be planted in the spring of
2010. The last day to place tree orders is March 5, 2010. These low-cost
seedling trees are made available for the planting of farm and livestock
windbreaks, wildlife habitat, living snow fences, and other multipurpose
plantings.
The
cost of trees is $21.25 per 25 trees, with payment due upon placement of the
tree order. Hand-plant orders will be
charged an additional $2.00 for packaging and handling. Orders must be in multiples of 25 per
species.
The
NRD provides tilling and planting services for those landowners who have 200 or
more trees to plant. The cost for tilling is $30/tractor hour, with a minimum
charge of $60. The cost of planting is $200
per 200 trees. The district does not
spray for weed control.
The
NRD is offering 44 hardwoods and shrubs, and 9 evergreens this year. Some species of trees are in short supply, so
it is important to place your order as soon as possible. The district also has tree protectors and
weed barrier squares for sale.
Remember,
the best time to plant a windbreak was 20 years ago - - the next best time to
begin is today. Contact your local NRCS
