FREE DRINKING WATER ANALYSIS
The Lower Big Blue NRD will be testing domestic drinking water wells in January 2008 at no charge to rural residents of the District. Domestic wells, which are a primary source of drinking water for many of our families, are very susceptible to nitrate contamination due to their construction, location, and age.
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has set a Maximum Contaminant Level of 10 parts-per-million (ppm) for nitrate-nitrogen in public water supplies. A water test for nitrate is highly recommended for households with infants, pregnant women, nursing mothers, or elderly people, as these groups are most susceptible to nitrates. Without a test, nitrate in water is undetectable because it is colorless, odorless, and tasteless.
The first step in insuring quality drinking water for your family is to have your water tested. Please call the LBBNRD by Friday, January 4, 2008 at 228-3402 or email Travis Porter if you are interested in a free drinking water analysis.
