RECREATION AREAS TO CLOSE FOR SEASON

Willard L. Meyer, Big Indian, Swanton and Walnut Creek Recreation Areas

The Lower Big Blue NRD will close the Willard L. Meyer Recreation Area, located east of Tobias, Big Indian Recreation Area, located southwest of Wymore, Swanton Wildlife Management Area, located north of Swanton and Walnut Creek Recreation Area, located north of Crete on October 30, 2009.  The north entrance at the Willard L. Meyer Recreation Area, east entrance at Swanton Wildlife Management Area, and the west area at Walnut Creek Recreation Area will remain open to provide access for fishing. The west entrance to the Archery Range at Big Indian Recreation Area will also remain open but the archery range will be closed during firearm deer season November 14, 2009 – November 22, 2009 and January 1, 2010-January  15, 2010.  The archery range trail will be closed during the muzzleloader season but the practice range will remain open.   The south entrance to the Willard L. Meyer Recreation Area and west entrance at Swanton Wildlife Management Area will be opened after the Deer Firearm season in January.   The recreation areas are open to hunting, fishing, trapping, and hiking by foot traffic only.  If you need to get a vehicle into one of the recreation areas please call the office at 402-228-3402.
